At 2:00 p.m. on December 20, 2024, the School of Artificial Intelligence convened a faculty and cadre conference in Conference Room B404 to announce cadre appointments. Vice President Gong Wei and Jiang Xingli, Director of the Organization Department of the University’s Party Committee, were present, along with members of the school’s leadership team and all faculty and staff. The conference was presided over by Bian Jinluan, Party Secretary of the School of Computer Science.
Jiang Xingli announced the "Notice on the Establishment of the School of Artificial Intelligence at Wuhan University" and cadre appointment decisions. Xia Guisong was appointed Vice Dean (Acting Dean) of the School of Artificial Intelligence, while Jiao Yuling and Hong Liang were named as Vice Deans of the School of Artificial Intelligence. Gao Weisong, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Computer Science, will be responsible for party affairs and student affairs for the new school. Additionally, Xia Guisong will no longer serve as Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science.
In his speech, Xia Guisong expressed heartfelt thanks for the trust placed in him by the university and school leadership, and faculty members. Highlighting keywords such as “steadfast conviction, teamwork, talent strengthens the institution, quality defines the institution, and integrity and self-discipline,” he vowed to dedicate his full passion and firm determination to advancing the school’s development and fulfilling his commitments with concrete actions. He also emphasized that the School of Artificial Intelligence at Wuhan University bears the sacred mission of cultivating top talent in the AI field, leading cutting-edge research and innovation, and serving the nation’s major strategic needs. He pledged to work hand in hand with the party and administrative leadership and all faculty and staff to unite, innovate, and drive high-quality development across all areas of the school.
In his speech, Gao Weisong expressed gratitude for the trust of the university's Party Committee and the support from faculty and students. He stated that in his future work, he would further enhance his strategic perspective, collaborate closely with the school’s leadership, and focus on national and Hubei provincial strategic needs. He pledged to unite and lead faculty and students in building a strong School of Artificial Intelligence, providing crucial support and fresh momentum for Wuhan University’s pursuit of becoming a world-class institution.
Jiao Yuling emphasized his firm support for the school’s Party-administrative leadership and his commitment to making meaningful contributions in his role. He vowed to quickly adapt to his new position with high standards, diligently fulfill his responsibilities, and work conscientiously.
Hong Liang expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust of the university and the support from both faculty and students. He pledged to actively unite various forces and consolidate resources to support the development of the artificial intelligence discipline and talent cultivation, and to steadfastly uphold his responsibilities, serving faculty and students wholeheartedly.
On behalf of the university’s Party Committee, Gong Wei congratulated the appointments of Comrades Xia Guisong and the other three colleagues. He noted that Comrade Xia Guisong is steadfast in his ideals, possesses high research capabilities, and demonstrates a pragmatic work style coupled with strong commitment and a sense of responsibility. Comrade Gao Weisong is well-rounded in his abilities, with extensive experience in Party affairs and student development, a clear understanding of the school’s construction goals, and a lucid vision for student development. Comrade Jiao Yuling has achieved outstanding results in machine learning, scientific computing, and artificial intelligence, emphasizes student development, and is highly praised for his teaching excellence. Comrade Hong Liang has made significant achievements in interdisciplinary research and teaching in data science and digital finance, and he has a clear strategy for the discipline’s development. The university Party Committee believes that the leadership team of the School of Artificial Intelligence, composed of these four comrades, is well-suited for the role and will undoubtedly further advance the school’s development.
At the same time, he expressed his commitment to transform General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of speeches on building a strong nation in education, science and technology, and talent into a powerful driving force for high-quality development. He outlined his expectations for the school’s work as follows: 1. Unite efforts to achieve new successes by promoting sincere unity and diligent work; ensure that all faculty and staff work together in full support of the party and administrative leadership, maintain a positive development momentum for the school, create a bright future for its growth, and serve the country’s strategic development needs.
Bian Jinluan stated that he firmly supports the decision of the university Party Committee and, on behalf of the Party Committee of the School of Computer Science, declared his full support for the development and construction of the School of Artificial Intelligence, providing essential guarantees and backing for its rapid progress.
